About the Marathon
The 47th Portland Marathon 2018 is being held in Portland, Oregon on Sunday, October 7th, 2018. The Portland marathon route includes a full Marathon race, Half Marathon, and a Kid’s Fun Run festival. This Marathon offers exceptional entertainment to all; this includes a 3-day Event Directors college with a 2-day Sports and Fitness Expo alongside the races.
With a 3 mile run alongside the expansive panorama of the waterfront on the east side of Portland, the marathon route embraces a remarkable view of St. John’s bridge which is one of the most striking suspension bridges in the world. The runners have 8 hours to complete the marathon.
Last year, over 74 groups were deployed for live entertainment alongside 53 locations on the marathon route crossing the Historic Old town, scenic riverfront and essential neighborhoods through Portland.
The Portland Marathon has been welcoming runners for over 20 years now and the race size ranges from around 8000- 10,000 runners each year.
Termed as the most walker-friendly Marathon in the USA, the marathon is supported by 4500 dedicated volunteers and offers an abundance of best in the west live entertainment along the Marathon course. The past years have seen a blend of Rock, Jazz and country bands accompanied by Mandolin Orchestra’s, aerobic dancers and high school cheerleading squads.

This has been taking place every year since its inception in 1972 and is one of the top 40 races of all types and distances. The Portland Marathon also stands proud of the previous rankings that have been awarded by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons which term this Marathon as the best organized Marathon in North America and one of the top three marathons to be run as a ‘First Marathon’ in a runners life.
For the past 10 years, the Portland Marathon has also been ranked as the ‘Best People’s Marathon in the West’!
Registration and Entry Details
Yes, you can register right away!
The registration for Portland Marathon and Portland Half Marathon is open for runners from all walks of life. The minimum age limit as advised by the authorities is 16 and the entrants are recommended to have a physical fitness medical checkup for at least six months before the Marathon date.
The registration is only pre-event and any participant found not registered on the day of the Marathon will not be allowed to run in the race. For the full Marathon, wheel-chair entrants are also welcome. There are 15 age group entries combined for both men and women.

Are you a group of people who wish to participate together?
The Portland Marathon believes that running together can build a stronger community and encourages team participation for varied types of groups. All you need to do is choose a team Captain and he’d manage it all.
There is a minimal entry fee for running the Portland Marathon route which has been categorized according to the group and individual entries.
The fee structure is as follows:
Individual Entry: $125.00 USD
Team Entry – General Group: $125 USD
Team Entry – Running Club Team: $125 USD
Team Entry- School Team: $125 USD

Types of Races and Particulars
There are three types of Races to be run in the Portland Marathon namely Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and Kid’s Fun Run.
- Full Marathon Race
The full Marathon race is 3 miles and runs across 53 locations in the Chicago city. The race starts at the SW Salmon Avenue and there are multiple 1-mile markings and aid stations in between. The runners will get a total of 8 hours to run the full marathon.
There is a portland marathon time limit from the start of the race at 7 AM until 1 PM. If you cannot complete the marathon within this time then officials will direct you to the sidewalk where you can finish the rest of your race.
- Half Marathon Race
The Half Marathon race route is spread across 30 locations across the Portland city and runners get 3 hours to complete the route. Using a total of 8 street blocks, runners and walkers move along an easy course that is flat and has only 10 turns.
The half Marathon participants receive an abundant of goodies including a finishers medal, branded disposable cover-up, rose, event coin, pendant, tree seedling, rose and a long sleeve performance finisher shirt. We really do have the best goodies! And you also get a free poster and coffee table worthy pre-event publication.
There are a limited number of entries for the Portland Half Marathon 2018 and registration is open right now. The event turns into an only Charity entry event after January 31st, 2018. The day of the race is the same as full Marathon and only the starting Corral is different for every race.
- Kid’s Fun Run
The Portland Marathon Kids’ Fun Run is a virtual event that encourages the kids to get active and into the feel of the Marathon at a young age. This virtual play can be completed anytime and anywhere whether you are in Portland or not. All that the kids need to do is not miss the opportunity to run, walk or simply wheely to the finish line.

For participating, you can simply register online on the official website of Portland which gives your kid an access to the virtual Marathon portal. Make all those proud social media posts and make it go viral with images and posts about your kid finishing the Marathon successfully. 6:00 a.m. - Runners use the map on the back of your bib to find your starting corral. Please arrive early so you have time to use the facilities.
6:55 a.m. - Runners and walkers join together to sing the National Anthem
6:59 a.m.- Wheelchair race begins
7:00 a.m.- Marathon Run/Walk and 1/2 Marathon Run/Walk begin as multiple waves start.
7:30 a.m.- The last wave should be crossing the starting line!
Half And Full Marathon runners will pick up their exclusive post-race goodies like T-shirt, finisher medal and much more before exiting the Marathon Charade. They will also be honored with a Portland Rose and a seedling as a token of love for taking part in the Marathon.

The Sports and Fitness Expo is being held at the Hilton Portland Downtown Ballroom and it is the official venue for packet pickup by all the runners and participants.

All the pre-race goodies including bib number, race participant bag, timing chip etc. should be picked up by each runner during the export hours only. Extremely fun and informative, the Expo witnesses nearly 20,000 attendees every year from the Northwest and Worldwide. For the general public, the Expo entry stands free.
The Portland Marathon Expo also features innovative fitness clothing, lifestyle products, food and beverage counters, shoes and training aids and other sports merchandise. There are also special seminars that are conducted in the Expo by sports specialists and noted personalities in the fitness community.

Is the marathon course certified?
The Portland Marathon course has been officially certified by Lee Barrett, who is the official certifier for USATF, IAAF, AIMS, and others. This is also a certified Boston 2020 Marathon qualifying course.

You can pick up the runner packet and Pre Race goodies from the Sports and Expo Hall on October 5 and 6 according to the specified timings in the schedule. Please note that there is NO packet pick-up on the race day.

The 46th edition of the Portland Marathon in 2017 saw Teppei Suegami from the USA as a winner in the men’s category by completing the marathon in 2:23:41, wherein the shining woman of the marathon was Allison Goldstein who completed the run in 2:50:25.
This historic Marathon has also seen a few other personal record-breaking times; naming one by Jameson Mora from the USA, who completed this Marathon in 2013 in just 2:2054 which is officially the lowest run time till date for The Portland Marathon.
