The Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon is one of the most well known and highly anticipated races of 2018. Also nicknamed the “biggest little marathon in the West”, this race is brimming with beautiful scenic routes along with the participation of many enthusiastic runners from all over the United States.

You are guaranteed to enjoy the marathon as you run through vineyards and countryside that can only be best experienced in Napa. Start the journey in Calistoga and run with natural geysers surrounding the path, then down the Silverado Trail, finally ending at the North Napa High School.

About Napa Valley Marathon

The Napa Marathon includes three races, first the full-fledged 26.2-mile marathon, a 5K run, and a virtual marathon. Get ready to be a part of one of the most scenic marathons in California.

However, there is no Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon taking place this coming year.

The Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon lets you register according to your goal, which means you can go as a regular marathoner or run for charity. Make your decision and join in the events lined up just for the whole community.

Participate, visit the Expo, and enjoy the post-race dinner and activities scheduled. There's something for everyone and make sure you don't miss out on a chance to attend this charming marathon. Hurry up and get registered, you won't regret it!


Information of Races: Types, Registration, & Eligibility

The Napa Marathon is located in Napa, California, USA. It is scheduled to take place on the 4th of March, 2018. All races are open to any individual for registration, provided they are eligible.

There is a limited registration period and participation limit for all races so apply fast! The following races are available to register for:

No Cancellations or Refunds

The Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon allows a maximum of 100 participants to register for the charity entry for $250.

The additional $100 that these participants pay will go to scholarships for students at Redwood Middle School. No Napa Valley Marathon coupon code is available on the website

Online registration closes on March 1, 2018, at 11:59 pm PST. There is NO race day registration.


The Minimum Eligibility Age for the races are:

Napa Valley Marathon Route

This marathon is 26.2 miles long. It is a full marathon course that begins in Calistoga and goes along the Silverado Trail. It continues until Napa where it finishes in Vintage High school. The first 12 miles along Silverado Trail are closed off to traffic for marathon runners but the rest of the course is merged with traffic and open to vehicles. Caution is advised when running on the road.

Kiwanis Club of Greater Napa 5K Run Route

The 5k race begins at the Vintage High School in Napa, California. The course of the map takes off on Stover Ave, then Martin St., Solomon Ave, El Cento Ave, Big Ranch Rd. and then a U-turn back to Vintage High school.

Race Day Details

The Kaiser Permanente group is organizing one of the most awaited marathons in March of 2018. These are the details of the events taking place on the Napa Marathon Race weekend and on Race Day.

Sports and Fitness Expo

The Expo is going to be organized at the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa. The Expo is a two-day event taking place on the 2nd of March, Friday from 1 PM to 6 PM  and the 3rd of March, Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

All marathon runners and 5K runners are requested to pick up the race pack, bib, shirt, and goody bag from the Expo in order to be able to run the race on Sunday, March 4th. Runners must come in person to pick up their own bibs and can in the meantime enjoys the stalls as well as free beer and wine tastings. The latest time to pick up the bib is at 8 PM after the Expo on Saturday, March 3rd.

The annual Marathon College will also be held on Saturday. There will also be a Marathon College happening during the Expo with Joan Benoit Samelson invited as keynote speaker. This will be on Day 2 of the Sports and Fitness Expo on Saturday, March 3rd.


The Start

The Napa Valley Marathon takes place on Sunday, March 4th and begins on time at 7 AM. The Greater Kiwanis Club of Napa 5K race starts at 8 AM sharp shortly after the marathon.

Medical Assistance

The best medical staff supplied by Kaiser Permanente will be at the service of injured or dick marathon runners during and after the race. They will be located at aid stations along the race course starting at 9.4 miles until the finish line.

There are ambulances available and a sag bus follows behind at the back in the marathon running group to transport those unable to complete the race.

Finish line medical technicians are equipped for any possible injury and physiotherapists are also on board for any post-race problem.


Roadblocks and Traffic

The beginning 12 miles from Calistoga and along the Silverado Trail is closed off to traffic. The rest of the course is restricted but no roadblocks stop vehicles from coming onto the running path. There are some points like intersections that get very crowded and caution must be taken when running through these.


Aid Stations

Along the race course, there will be 13 aid stations that offer Gatorade Endurance, water, medical supplies, and fruits at later aid stations. You can even request your own special drinks to be distributed at aid stations along the way.

At the start of the race, each aid station, and the finish line there will be portable toilets available for use. Check out the Napa Valley Marathon Route map provided earlier to see where each aid station will be located along the course.


Maximum Time Limit

For the Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon, all runners must complete the race and be off the road by 1 PM. This is in accordance with the Highway patrol permits from Napa County.

Therefore it is absolutely necessary that a runner participating in the Napa Valley Marathon be able to complete 26.2 miles within 6 hours.


Race Medal and Official Time

You will receive a disposable chip which can record your race time. Using other methods of timing are not allowed and may not indicate your official timing.

As you finish the race you will receive your finishers medal from a volunteer. You can then head to an aid station for food and refreshments.



There are only transport buses available from Vintage High school to the start of the race in Calistoga. They start at 5:15 AM to 5:45 AM. You may take the shuttles provided by hotel sponsors of the race like Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa, the Embassy Suites, and the River Terrace Inn.

All hotel buses will leave from 5 AM to 5:15 AM. Wake up early and don't miss them! If you wish to drive to the start of the race, keep in mind that there limited parking.

There is no direct drive to the start and parking will be at least a mile away from the starting line. Use Highway 29 on the west side of the valley, and do not come by the Silverado Trail as it will be closed off to vehicles for the race.

Heading back to your hotel or other venues, transport is not provided for by marathon organizers. Public buses are available and run to all parts of Napa. Again a hotel sponsors shuttle service will be available from the finish line to the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa, Embassy Suites, and the River Terrace Inn from 10 AM to 1:30 PM.


Beyond the Finish

After you complete the grueling race you will be able to use showers, be attended by medical personnel, and enjoy live bands or massages. The cafeteria will serve hot soup, rolls, fresh fruit, water, and other items.



The race ends at 1 PM and only the runners that complete the marathon within 6 hours will qualify for best time and whose results will be posted online.

If a runner does not finish the race they will not receive a finisher medal. It is highly important to complete the race within 6 hours and participants unable to do so may register for other marathons in California and provide this opportunity to another runner who can finish in the required time.

  1. When is the Napa Valley Marathon 2018?
    Sunday on March 4th, 2018.

  2. Can I register on the day of the event?
    No registrations will be accepted on the main race day.

  3. How will my entry acceptance be intimated to me?
    On successful completion of registration, you will receive an email confirming your registration.

  4. Can I pick-up my Race packs on the same day as the race?
    Race packs will NOT be provided to runners on the day of the race. You will have to pick them up in person from the Sports and Fitness Expo on Friday 2nd March or Saturday 3rd March 2018.

  5. Where is the venue for bib distribution/ Race pack?
    The venue is the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa.

  6. Once applied can I cancel my entry and get a refund?
    Refund requests will NOT be entertained once registration has been completed.

  7. Can I transfer my registration to another person?
    No transfer of registrations will be permitted.

  8. Can I authorize another person to pick up my race packet?
    No, you will be required to produce ID proof to collect your own race packet and race number at the Expo.

  9. Is the Napa Valley Marathon a road race or a trail race?
    The Napa Valley Marathon is a road race.

  10. Is there a Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Half Marathon?
    No. There is no Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Half Marathon available for registration.

Remember that if you are participating in the full marathon you must complete it within 6 hours and be off the road by 1 PM.

If you cannot make this time, then the organizers request that you train and register for the next race in 2019.
