The Millennium City Marathon (MCM) is a brainchild of Ultraman and 2 times Ironman Triathlete Abhishek Mishra. “Millennium City Marathon is an initiative to bring the diverse people of Gurugram on a platform of health, create awareness about the importance of fitness, and above all, to feel a part of the same city that is home to all of us,” says Mishra who quit his corporate career three years ago to focus on endurance race events.

The 2017 Millennium City Marathon will be held on 29th October in collaboration with DLF Foundation.

“DLF Foundation firmly believes in the cause of a healthy and disease -free Gurgaon. In today’s sedentary lifestyle, health has taken a backseat for all of us. Such marathons play an instrumental role in making people aware towards health,” said Colonel Prakash Tewari, Executive Director, DLF Foundation.

The first edition of Millennium City Marathon saw a massive 1500 participants and the one after that was also a successful edition with more than 3000 partakers. And now the MCM event returns for a third time to deliver yet another beautiful experience for runners... but via a different route.

The MCM has four race categories- full marathon, half marathon, 10 Km, and 5 Km.

How to prepare for Millennium City Marathon

how to prepare for marathon
Build Your Endurance (source)

Let us tell you first up that there are no shortcuts to running a marathon. You either do it or not. These long(er) race types demand a tremendous amount of stamina and high levels of endurance. Therefore, preparing yourself good for the D-day race is crucial.

P.S- Serious runners start training almost a year before the main day of the marathon.

Here are six things to remember while training yourself for full marathons and half marathons.

  1. Consume plenty of fluids as you tend to lose a lot of body water through perspiration during workouts and training.
  2. Eating the right food is very important. Avoid fats and add carbs to your diet. Fuel yourself with iron-rich foods, prebiotics, and probiotics like banana, mushrooms, garlic, almond, and oats.
  3. It is easy to drop out but to keep it going requires a bulk of mental strength. Trust your Nikes because you can do it!
  4. Your body needs recovery time as well. Train well for the marathon but also allow your body to rest. Try to arrive at the marathon with relaxed muscles.
  5. Avoid experimenting the marathon with new shoes, garments, and other running gears. It is always wise to stick to the tried and trusted gears.
  6. And most importantly, enjoy the running. Keep a healthy spirit and complete the run.

For more marathon training tips check out our marathon training guide. And if you make to the finish line (which we are sure you will) know how to recover post marathon.

If you a fresh runner who has just decided to do something as big as the Millennium City Marathon then before jumping into a marathon training routine then perhaps begin with brisk walks in the neighbourhood park. Then swiftly shift your gears to a good jogging pace and gradually speed up with time.
