An important question that we forget to ask ourselves, while we chase artificial designations, unrealistic milestones, impossible targets in a never ending rat race. We long to do things our heart tells us to do, but cannot. We want to follow our passions, but cannot. We feel trapped in false identity given to us by the world around. We feel we are more inside.
Our busy lives are decided by things which we cannot control but are committed to. The demands of our parents, spouse, children, bosses, colleagues, relatives and even friends. A breakup of a week will show you how little time you have for yourself. The precious weekend comes and goes in some entertainment option which you think helps you unwind – a party, binge drinking with friends, binge watching your favorite TV series, a movie, a trip to the mall, or plain household chores which you had been putting off.
Before you know it, Monday has come and you drag your ass off the bed to start another dreary week. You spend your in-between time liking photos of the awesome life your friends seem to be living on FB and Instagram, blissfully unaware that most of them are living in the same rut as you.
Day after day, week after week this continues and one fine day you update your Linkedin Profile in hope of changing your job and getting out of this never ending cycle. You finally get a new job and you are over the moon. Your life has a new meaning, there are new goals, new missions to accomplish. All this lasts for the first month and you realize to your horror that things are back to the same routine.
Then due to your higher paycheck, you manage to take a holiday to your dream (read affordable) destination and have your moment under the sun when you put up your holiday moments on Facebook and Instagram and wait for the likes to trickle in. You are disappointed when your photos don’t get the same number of likes and you vow never to like any of your friends’ photo again.
All this continues till a point is reached where you come to a crossroad. A crossroad which will define the next part of your life. A crossroad where path A takes you to – ‘Resigned Fate’ and path B takes you to – ‘Something More’. Most of the people don’t understand what is ‘Something More’ and end up taking ‘Resigned Fate’ as it is familiar and feels safer. ‘Something More’ is unclear, off the beaten path, doesn’t really tell what to expect, what the reward is at the end of the journey and feels generally unsafe.
The scene of Morpheus giving a choice to Neo in Matrix plays in your mind – “This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill: the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill: you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
‘Red pill’ signifies a free-thinking attitude, and a waking up from a “normal” life of sloth and ignorance. Red pill symbolizes the journey into the unknown, no matter how risky, gritty and painful it may be. The ones who feel they are something more inside are the ones who take the red pill.
It is time to break the shackles,
It is time to create a new identity, a new persona,
It is time to bring out who you are inside,
It is time to say – “I took the red pill”
It is time to let your passions define you,
It is time to truly feel – “I am livingit!”
