Wondering how to reach Mullayanagiri peak from Chickamagalur?

Well, there are options that you can consider before you start your adventure. The best time to drive to the destination is between 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM.

You can take the road route which is recently done up very well to reach the foothill via Jeeps or buses.  If you don’t want to drive yourself, you can always take the local taxis to reach the peak. It takes around one hour to drive from Chikmagalur to Mullayanagiri.

How to Reach Sarpadhari - The Beginning Point for the Trek

This beautiful and scenic trek begins at the Mullayanagiri peak, at Sarpadhari, which is around 15 – 17 km away from Chikmagalur. This place can be reached by local transportation like taxis or buses or you can trek/walk from the starting point for close to 4 km and reach the peak.

The distance between Chikmagalur and Bengaluru is roughly 245 km. This can be covered by road and takes about 4 hours. You can also take the city bus to reach this starting point. The bus service leads you to the foothill of Mullayanagiri range. You can then take up a bus or a jeep to reach the starting point from Chikmagalur i.e. Sarpadhari.

Sarpadhari is a Kannada word which means path like a snake, ‘Sarpa’ stands for snake and ‘Dhari’ for the route.

If you’re not coming from Bengaluru and are travelling to this place from any other part of Karnataka, then you can take the Baba Budangiri route. Once you reach a place called ‘Kaimara’ hit the left turn. After taking the left turn you will witness a Y-intersection, just take a left from there as well and you will be on the Mullayanagiri route. After driving for about 500 meters, you will find a small arch on your left which will lead you to Sarpadhari!

The entire Mullayanagiri trek ideally takes around 1.5 to 3 hours, but, if you want to travel to the other tourist attractions that are around Mullayanagiri, it'll take you around 1-2 days, depending on how many of these points you plan on visiting.

It is recommended to remember the BSNL tower. This BSNL tower is located near the end of the trek.

The name “Mullayanagiri” is derived from the Mullayanagiri temple which is a small tomb that is dedicated to "Mulappa Swamy". This sage is known to have mediated in the caves of Mullayanagiri. These caves can be accessed from the Garbagudi of the temple located on the peak. The other trekking trails from Mullayanagiri are Baba Budangiri, Manikyadhara Falls, and Deviramma Temple. These are most visited and loved by tourists.
