Bottomline

Coming with a stylish look, the shoes impressed the users with durability, support and breathability. In spite of not being waterproof, the mesh uppers will keep your feet dry for a long time, hence, you can take up hiking in mild drizzles or in muddy terrains with ease. The ContaGrip also provides excellent grip on all terrains, be it sandy stretch or gravel path. Although in some cases the users had fitting issues, altogether, this shoe is a great hiker choice.

Gear Construction

Be it a long hike through sandy desert canyons or along slightly muddy mountain trails, climbing high elevation rocky slopes or passing grassy meadows – the Salomon Men's X Ultra Prime comes in aid in all these trail conditions with its fabulous traction provided by the ContaGrip technology. It helps you to be stable and efficient while moving faster on rocky trails. The lightweight yet advanced Chassis midsoles are complemented by the injected and molded EVA footbeds that not only offers you push-through protection but also maximizes your control over motion by keeping you stable underfoot.

The polyester Mesh linings are breathable while the synthetic overlays keep your feet stable and comfortable at the same time. To keep your toes safe from incoming rocks, exposed roots or trail obstacles, the toe caps have effective rubber made mud guards. The removable Ortholites are cushioned and have contoured EVA heels to add cushioning and support to your heels in the long run.

The Ortholites also wicks excess moisture to keep your feet dry and fresh. As for fitting, while some might need a break in period, in most cases, the gusseted tongue gives a snug fitting right out of the box.

However, the boots are not waterproof and hence, using them while crossing a stream or in puddles or in incessant rains will not be a good idea; however, they dries out overnight and hence, you can still use them in light drizzles or slightly muddy or snowy conditions.

Upper

The lightweight, breathable and protective mesh panels are overlaid by synthetic fabric that dries out quickly. The uppers will add stability and will keep your feet comfortable.

Midsole

The lightweight advanced Chassis with molded and injected EVA Midsoles are designed anatomically to give support and cushioning to your underfoot.

Outsole

The rubber outsoles come up with ContaGrip technology to provide you with excellent grip in both dry and wet conditions and in rugged surfaces.

Ankle Support/Collar

The Ortholite Sockliners are removable and are combined with Ortholite foam surface to add comfort. The EVA Heel Cups are contoured and cushioned to offer traction, support and cushioning. The ankle support and the arch liners also add support and work as shock absorbers while giving a good grip over rough trails.

Tongue

The contoured and gusseted tongues fit snugly over the insteps while keeping the fold of the tongue smooth and flat, thereby reducing lace pressure. The X Ultra Prime also acts as a barrier to keep the trail cruds away.

Lacing System

The improved traditional single-pull lacing system gives protection and adds stability.

Toe cap and Heel Counter

The rubber mud guards of the toe caps offer protection from trail obstacles. The Ortholite Sockliners are removable and are combined with cushioned Ortholite foams, protective heel and toe caps and heel counters with contoured EVA Heel cups to give ample support to the heel area.

Insole/Footbed/Sock Liner

The insole is made of removable and cushioned OrthoLite® that wicks moisture and vapour, thereby keeps your feet dry and free from bacterial reactions causing odor.

Interiors((lining)

Polyester Ortholite sockliners are sumptuously soft to make the interiors comfortable and keeps moisture away.

Waterproofing

The boots are not waterproof but dries out within a night.
