Fit – The boots fit perfectly and has a large toe space. Some users felt that they need to order half size larger of their actual size for perfect fitting.

Comfort – According to most of the users, the design adds comfort and flexibility for long term use. However, a few users felt that this shoe is more suitable for daily use, rather than long hiking.

Traction – The Vibram Lugs are said to give great grip on both rocky harsh terrains and muddy trails. Due to thin outsole and lack of midsole cushioning, some users felt coarse under their feet and said that the sole seemed to be worn out after a few hikes in rough terrains.

Protection – Users felt comfortable with the not-too-rigid build-up, especially while hiking in rocky terrains.

Support – Users were pleased with the arch and ankle support and said it was effective in long hikes. A few users with high arches and flat arches felt less support while hiking for long hours. One of the users felt that the side ankle support was not adequate while another felt more support on ankle than on toes.

Quality – Due to great quality many users have used the boot both for construction works as well as for long hiking. However, one of the user felt that the quality was not up to mark for hiking due to blisters. A few users also commented about frayed loops and stitches seen after active use.

Waterproof – The product being water resistant was useful to some users as they said it stops dew and mild downpour from entering the insoles.

Breathability – The ventilation of the mesh surface makes the boots very breathable and users found this very useful during hiking in hot weather conditions. Users loved the sweat-wicking property of the boot. Some users found the Gore-tex build-up not much breathable while one commented that the fabric seemed to wear off on the side of the ventilation windows.

Weight – With only 1lb 15 oz weight, the users found this shoe very lightweight, even for daily use.

Insulation – Most of the users, however, agreed that the shoe works great in freezing conditions and many users loved the Moab Ventilator perfect for hiking in extreme summer times, too. However, some of the users felt that the shoe not suitable for winter and some felt that the insulation made their feet warm and uncomfortable.

Durability – Most users seem to be quite impressed with the durability of the shoes while hiking in long backpacking trips. Users also have used it for construction related jobs and found it to be hardy enough. One user felt worn out back and side ankle cushioning while the other found exposed hard plastic after only few months of using it.

Looks – Users have loved the style, design and colour of the boots and have used it for daily use purposes apart from hiking.

Price – The users loved the comfort provided by the shoe at this price. Many users found the boots to be perfectly worth of its money as they have used it for daily use as well as for hiking purpose. A few users although, have felt that the shoe does not live up to the quality, durability and comfort with its expensive price.

Bottomline

With Vibram Lags and Nylon built Arch Shanks, the Merrell Men's Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boot offers a great flexibility and traction while hiking long distance in adverse terrains. The mid height ankle collars act as support from unwanted debris and particles from entering your boot. Moreover, the M-Select Fresh and Dry features keep your feet happy and fresh for hours. The boots are light in weight too, however, the cons are that they are not waterproof and their outsole build-up is found thin and wearing out in many cases, creating irritation while traversing on rocky surface. Still the boot is recommended for long day hikes and in dry conditions.

Gear Construction

The Merrell Men's Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boot is a versatile essential for outdoor trail hiking, long-term backpacking trip and even for biking for long hours. The Dura leather strapping around the ankles will let you continue the hike even in the most rugged terrains without those foot blisters and the mid height comes in aid to provide your ankles great support while traversing the boulders, steep slopes or gorges. Another positive feature that will come very handy is its breathability – the mesh build up of the upper works like wonder in hyperventilation while traversing in parched atmosphere and keeps your feet fresh by wicking sweat, thereby reducing odour.

Coming to the support and traction, the boots come up with EVA Midsoles offering great cushioning and the nylon-built arch shanks with Vibram Lugs will provide your feet great traction and flexibility in rugged and smooth surfaces. The Heel Pockets with Air Cushion acts as shock absorber and the anatomically shaped footbeds will give your feet cushioning in long term hike in adverse conditions. However, these boots are not waterproof, but having nylon uppers they can dry out quickly.

So, basically, if you are planning for a day hike in dry regions or longer backpacking trip in some rocky terrain, this boot with great support, traction and breathability will be perfect. But for hiking in wet conditions, in snow or crossing a stream or muddy terrain, this is not a good choice.

Upper

Upper material features a new type of suede which is more durable combined with a lightweight mesh. The mesh and suede build-up is not waterproof but gives protection from water at some extent. They are breathable.

Midsole

EVA midsoles for optimal stability and comfort. EVA footframe comes with Compression molding and adds cushioning

Outersole

Vibram TC5+ outsoles delivers reliable grip and have a 5mm lug depth for grip. Arch Shanks with molded nylon build-up and Vibram™ lugs with durable rubber outsole has shock and slip resistance. Air cushion heel stabilizes footstrikes.

Ankle Support/Collar

Mid Height design with cushions offer great support over ankles while traversing in rough terrains.

Tongue

Bellows, closed-cell foam tongues keep moisture and debris out. The gusseted tongue is attached relatively high on the mid-length boots to keep debris and trail crud from getting in at that height.

Lacing System

Limited lacing option; however, it does not hamper the comfort of the shoe. This newest addition has five set of fabric loops, the highest i.e. the last is set back while the following one has open metal hook on the boot, adding comfort in using.

Toe cap and Heel Counter

The shoe has protective rubber toe caps which adds to the fit and feel of the shoe. The Merrell air cushion blended EVA contoured footbed in the heels absorbs shock and adds stability.

Insole/Footbed/Sock Liner

The Anatomical footbed with Ortholite feature adds support during long hikes.

Interiors (Lining)

M-select Fresh wicks sweat and excessive moisture, adding freshness and keeping odour from microbial agents at bay. M-Select Dry has mesh lining that wicks the moisture and sweat.

Waterproofing

Not waterproof, but water resistant nylon mesh upper dries out quickly. It is not suitable for wet conditions.
